Beam-position pickup

A pickup is described which is based on measuring the distribution of ''image currents'' induced by a beam of charged particles in the conducting walls of the vacuum chamber. The pickup is designed to measure the position of the center of gravity of the beam and the ellipticity of its cross section. The construction of the pick-up is presented. The rise time of the pickup signal is better than 0.3 nsec.
