The numerical simulation of projectile shape effects on craters in hypervelocity impact on thick aluminum target was investigated. The research shows that the cylindrical or spherical projectile with same ratio of length to diameter was apt to form the hemispherical crater in the target board, while the projectile with larger ratio of length to diameter formed larger crater; on the case of same quantity, the penetration ability of cylindrical projectile was larger than the spherical projectile, and the cylindrical projectile with larger ratio of length to diameter held larger penetration ability than the relatively small ratio of length to diameter; during the penetration process of cylindrical projectile with larger ratio length to diameter, the projectile formed the standing wave front, and showing asectionphenomenon; the penetration depth increases with penetration time extension.
