Objective:To evaluate the significance and diagnostic value of serum transferring receptor(sTfR) in patients with anemia of chronic diseases accompanied with iron deficiency. Methods: Seventy-six cases of anemia of chronic diseases were measured by ablely-dyed iron in bone marrow and were divided into the iron deficiency group and the iron indeficiency group. Serum iron(SI), total iron binding capacity(TIBC), serum ferritin(SF), Ablely-dyed iron in bone marrow and sTfR were measured in 41 cases of iron deficiency anemia and the results were analyzed. Results: Fouty-six of the 76 cases(60.5%) were ablely-dyed iron deficiency in bone marrow. The value of SI, TIBC, SF in anemia group of iron deficiency was significantly different from the group of chronic disease and the group of chronic disease with iron deficiency (P0.01, 0.05), and it was not significantly different from the anemia group of chronic disease without iron deficiency (P0.05); There is no significant difference between the anemia group of chronic disease with iron deficiency and the group of chronic diseases without iron deficiency(P0.05). The value of sTfR increased in all groups and there was a significant difference between the normal group and thosegroups(P0.01). But there was no significant difference between the normal group and the anemia group of chro-nic diseases without iron deficiency (P0.05); There was a significant difference between the anemia group of iron deficiency and the group of chronic diseases without iron deficiency(P0.01). There was no significant difference between the anemia group of iron deficiency and the group of chronic diseases with iron deficiency (P0.05).There was significant difference between the anemia group of iron deficiency and the group of iron indeficiency(P0.01). Conclusions: Half of the patients with anemia of chronic diseases had iron deficiency. sTfR is a new mark to reflect the status of stored iron in bodies and can exactly evaluate the status of the stored iron in patients with anemia of chronic diseases, also it can be regarded as a diagnostic evidence of iron deficiency.
