Objective To compare the clinic effects of amalgam with mineral trioxide aggregate as root-end filling materials during root-end surgeries.Methods A total of 86 cases that had received root apical operation were collected.According to the different root-end filling materials,these cases were divided into two groups:A (47 cases):MTA; B (38cases):amalgam; All cases were treated with microscope and ultrasonic retro-tips.The effects were evaluated by clinical and radiographic checkup.The results were evaluated as complete healing,incomplete healing,uncertain healing and failure.The operative success rate at one year was calculated..Results The success rate of group A was not significantly different with that of group B (P0.05).Conclusion As root-end filling materials in this clinical prospective study,MTA and amalgam had the same clinical effectiveness.
