In order to know the influence of common adjuvant ingredients of glutaraldehyde fomulas on glutaraldehyde content measurement and stability, physicochemical analysis was used to carry out laboratory study. Results: The glutaraldehyde content of pure glutaraldehyde without any adjuvant ingredient ranged 18~25 g/L and the error range was 1.19%~2.24% measured by hydroxy amine method.By addition of sodium nitrite 3.0 g/L and 5.0 g/L to the solution containing glutaraldehyde 22.39 g/L,the pH values of the glutaraldehyde solutions increased from 3.93 to 4.84 and 5.00 respectively and glutaraldehyde contents decreased from 22.39 g/L to 22.26 g/L and 22.01 g/L respectively.By addition of sodium bicarbonate 1.0~3.0 g/L to the solution containing glutaraldehyde 21.88 g/L,the pH values increased from original 3.93 to 7.37~7.80 and the glutaraldehyde content decreased from original 21.88 g/L to 21.07~19.91 g/L respectively.By addition of polyoxyethylene alcohol 2.5 g/L to glutaraldehyde solution containing sodium bicarbonate and sodium nitrite, followed by storing at room temperature for 28 days, the glutaraldehyde content decreased by 3.70%,while the glutaraldehyde content of the solution without addition of polyoxyethylene alcohol decreased by 5.67%.Conclusions: When hydroxy amine method was used for measuring glutaraldehyde content, the result of measurement changed with change in pH value of glutaraldehyde solution.Addition of sodium bicarbonate or sodium nitrite to glutaraldehyde solution caused decrease in measured value of glutaraldehyde.Addition of polyoxyethylene alcohol to glutaraldehyde solution enhanced its stability.
