Study of Toughening of Flame Retardant High Impact Polystyrene

SBS,EPDM and EVA were used as toughening agents,and their effects on the mechanical properties and flame retardancy of HIPS were studied. The results showed that the comprehensive properties of the composite modified by SBS were better than those of the composites modified by EPDM or EVA;the impact strength of the composite increased with the increase of the content of SBS,when the content of SBS was 18%,the impact strength of the composite was about 10 kJ/m2,which was about 8 kJ/m2 more than that of the non-toughened composite,and the addition of SBS had no harmful effect on the flame retardancy of the composite.
