Data infrastructure construction and artificial intelligence innovation: evidence from China

Based on the data of Chinese A-share listed enterprises from 2010 to 2023, we consider the establishment of the BDPZ as a quasi-natural experiment to investigate the impact of data infrastructure construction on artificial intelligence innovation in enterprises. Research has shown that the BDPZ will significantly promote enterprise artificial intelligence innovation. The accumulation of data assets and the stimulation of intelligent investment are the main potential mechanisms. Further analysis reveals that the positive effect of the establishment of the pilot zone on artificial intelligence innovation is more pronounced for large-scale enterprises, non-digital enterprises, and enterprises located in regions with abundant data resources.
