ABSTRACT Sulfur‐modified Ni@C catalysts, synthesized via a one‐step carbonization of sulfur‐containing nickel‐organic gels, selectively hydrogenate crotonaldehyde to butyraldehyde with 96% conversion and 96% selectivity. The sulfur modification introduces steric hindrance on the Ni surface, effectively weakening the adsorption of saturated aldehydes and thereby inhibiting over‐reduction of the C═O group.
