Metal-free electrohalogenation of olefins with aqueous NaX mediators

We have developed a practical and diverse chlorination of alkenes via metal-free electrochemistry. By simply tuning the substitution pattern of the alkene, selective access to vicinal dichlorides, monochlorides, or allylic chlorides can be achieved.
