Treatment and analysis of intertrochanteric fractures of femur in elderly

To analyse the curative effects of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur in elderly using different methods. There were 63 cases of intertrochanteric fractures. Eight cases were treated with conservative therapy. Fifty-five cases were operated, 42 of them performed with using the DHS (Dynamic Hip Screw). The patients were followed up for 6～30 months, with an average of 10 months. There were not any infection and nonunion cases. Screw perforated the femoral head in 2 cases of the DHS internal fixatinon. Coxa vara was found in 7 cases. The excellent and good rate of hip joint function was 86.5%. [Conclusion] Operation is the first selection for treating intertrochanteric fractures of the femur in elderly and the DHS is an ideal internal fixation method.
