Objective To explore the effect of propranolol on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in the hemangioma tissues of infants and its clinical significance. Methods A total of 20 patients with proliferative hemangioma in the experiment group were divided into two subgroups: 10 patients in the experimental group A were injected with propranolol 4 weeks before operation, while 10 patients in the experimental group B were done 3 months before operation, the dose was 1.0 mg/(kg·d) in both groups).10 cases with involuting hemangioma(control group A) and 10 cases with proliferative hemangioma(control group B) were not treated with the propranolol. After the operations, the levels of VEGF and histologic specimens were compared among the four groups. Results VEGF in the experimental group A was negative or positive, but in the control group B was strongly positive expression.VEGF could be down-regulated by the propranolol(F=17.7024,P0.05);the affection time and the expression of the VEGF by oral propranolol was obviously negative correlation(r=-0.5922,P0.05).Conclusion Propranolol can down-regulate the expression of VEGF of proliferative hemangioma tissues, relieve the hemangioma, and should be expected to use for the hemangioma in infants.
