The sowing depths of wheat usually rely on the coleoptiles length,so the coleoptiles length plays an important role on wheat yield.Tetroploid wheat landrace Aiganfanmai(Triticum turgidum L),Langdon(T.durum Desf.)and the recombinant inbred lines(RILs),which derived from Aiganfanmai ×Langdon were employed in this study.The histologic section of Aiganfanmai coleoptile was observed,the coleoptiles length and epidermal cell length of coleoptiles were measured.The result indicated that the dwarf plants had short coleoptiles and tall plant had longer coleoptiles.Further study showed that the short coleoptiles was attribute to the short cell length of coleoptiles.So it could conclude that the short coleoptiles was root in pleiotropism of shortstalk gene.
