Sm3 + doped CaO-MgO-SiO2 luminescent glass ceramics were prepared by the melting-quenching method. The structure and luminescent properties of the glass ceramics prepared at different temperatures were studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The results indicate that the glass ceramics can emit red light under the excitation of long UV and blue lights. The glass ceramics show emission with peaks at 564,601,648 nm and 710 nm due to transitions of4G5/2→ 6 HJ(J=5/2,7/2,9/2,11/2) of Sm3 +.With the increase of reheating temperatures and the precipitate of diopside, the wavelength of peaks in optical spectra has no change, but the luminescent intensity of the glass ceramics is stronger.A concentration quenching effect was also observed in the glass ceramics when the content of Sm2O3 was over 0.100%(in mole).
