This book, based largely on the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), is intended for flaggers. It is an easy-to-read, easy-to-understand book, well illustrated and suitable for use in the training of flaggers. There are seven chapters. Chapter 1 discusses clothing and equipment, positioning, and safety of flaggers. Chapter 2 covers what the flagger should be aware of with regard to the motoring public, including traffic elements, stopping distances, and road conditions. Flagging procedures, channelization, and signs are the subjects of chapters 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Chapter 6 addresses special conditions, including flagging at night and freeway flagging. The final chapter presents a review of flagging applications and contains a flagging quiz. The Appendix includes a checklist of the fundamental principles of flagging and work zone traffic control. A state-by-state summary of flagging regulations is also included in the Appendix. Also provided are a Glossary of Terms, an Index, and a pullout Study Guide to be used with Chapters 1 through 6.
