摘要
Abstract In this review, we consider whether the zebrafish, Danio rerio, is a useful model system for uncovering the genetic and molecular basis for human neural tube defects (NTDs) and conclude that the zebrafish is an excellent NTD model. This conclusion is based on the similarities in development and structure of human and zebrafish brains. It is also based on characteristics of the zebrafish as a model, including the accessibility of early embryos, and the ability to use both powerful genetic and molecular techniques to analyze the zebrafish nervous system.
