Objective To investigate the expression and significance of interleutin 4 (IL-4) in patients with atopic dermatitis. Methods Fifteen adult patients with atropic dermatitis and 15 healthy controls were sequentially enrolled in this study. The production of IL-4 mRNA was measured by fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction.(PCR) The patients's condition were measured by eczema area and severity index (EASI). The correlation between expresion of IL-4 mRNA and EASI was analyzed. Results Expression of IL-4 mRNA in atopic dermatitis was significantly higher than that in healthy controls (t=9.02,P0.0001). Significant posivtive correlation of expression of IL-4 mRNA in in atropic dermatitis with EASI scores (r=0.79630,P=0.0004) was noticed. Conclusion These findings suggest an important role of IL-4 in the occurrence of patients with atopic dermatitis.
