This article is an abridged version of a federal document, Library Services for Immigrants: A Report on Current Practices. published in 2006 by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Institute for Museum Services. The full report is available at http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments/G‐1112.pdf. The document originated in 2004 in a 1½ day conversation among a working group of librarians and other immigration service professionals who were asked to discuss modern services for New Americans. In this shortened version of the report, the PLQ editors offer a more focused summary of how the working group dealt with partnerships, collections, information services, programs and events, outreach and planning. This document's editors also summarize a general description of each participating library's work with new immigrants, using information the participants provided during the meeting, plus additional information drawn from the participants' Web sites. The editors used standard editorial markers to denote deletions and insertions.
