A NOMENCLATURAL NOTE ON THE GENUS CAPSICUM

Summary Formal recognition is given on the varietal level to the wild and cultivated forms of Capsicum baccatum L. Both C. microcarpum Cav. and C. pendulum Willd. are brought under the synonymy of C. baccatum L. The cultivated chili pepper of South America is now named C. baccatum var. pendulum (Willdenow) Eshbaugh.
