SummaryThis paper presents cross-sectional serum profiles of porcine reproductive respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (Mhp), and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (App) in three farrow-to-finish pig herds. The aim of the study was to assess multidirectional serum profiles of the herds. In order to determine cross-sectional serum profiles, 42 blood samples were taken from different age groups (i.e. sows and pigs 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, and 22 weeks of age). Antibodies to PCV2, Mhp, and App were detected by a commercial ELISA test. Antibodies to PRRSV were detected by an in-house ELISA test. All results were classified as positive or negative, as described in the appropriate recommendations. The study shows that the dynamics and stage-specific patterns of the same pathogens varied between herds. This means that each herd requires an individual serum profile, which must be determined before a suitable method of fighting infectious agents can be selected (e.g. medication, vaccination, management strategies).
