The mangrove crab, Leptarma liho (Koller, Liu & Schubart, 2010), is a junior synonym of L. jamelense (Rathbun, 1914) (Brachyura, Sesarmidae)

The mangrove crab Leptarma liho (Koller, Liu & Schubart, 2010), type locality in Taiwan, is reassessed through morphological and molecular comparisons with L. jamelense (Rathbun, 1914) from the Philippines. Examination of type materials and additional specimens revealed no consistent morphological differences between the two taxa. Characters previously used to separate them, including the proportional length of the fourth ambulatory leg, the number and shape of chelar dactylar tubercles, and the morphology of the male first gonopod, fall within the range of intraspecific variation. Analysis of mitochondrial COX1 sequences further shows that specimens identified as L. liho from Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia, as well as L. jamelense from the Philippines, share closely related haplotypes and cannot be genetically distinguished. Based on this integrative evidence, Leptarma liho is here regarded as a junior synonym of Leptarma jamelense, extending the confirmed distribution of the species across the western Pacific from the Ryukyus (Japan) to Sulawesi (Indonesia) and Mindanao (Philippines).
