摘要
Natural biological carriers for drug delivery have been a hot topic of research, and erythrocytes, or red blood cells, have shown great promise as drug carriers. Derived from red blood cells, nanoerythrocytes have become a revolutionary drug delivery technology because of their lengthy circulation durations, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and natural capacity to avoid immune detection. These cells are transformed into nanoscale carriers by encapsulating medications, proteins, or genetic components using sophisticated engineering procedures. By providing tailored and regulated medication release, this innovative platform reduces systemic toxicity and enhances therapeutic efficacy. A variety of proteins, peptides, enzymes, macromolecules, and anticancer, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory medications may be transported by erythrocytes. These carriers are also used in diagnosis and therapy, which makes them extremely significant in the biomedical sciences. Nanoerythrocytes have advanced quickly over the past two decades, utilizing a range of encapsulated drugs to transition from in vivo studies to preclinical and clinical investigations. Due to their biomimetic properties, which improve medication stability and guarantee accurate site-specific targeting, they are positioned as possible carriers for the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of solid tumors. With their increased effectiveness and fewer adverse effects, nanoerythrocytes have transformed the delivery of antitumor drugs and are now a powerful tumor detection diagnostic tool. This chapter explores the innovative field of nanoerythrocytes as a cutting-edge drug delivery technology, moving from theoretical foundations to real-world clinical applications. It looks at how to make nanoerythrocytes, including how to encapsulate drugs and how to modify them at the nanoscale to allow for precise and regulated drug release.
