The progress of artificial source time-frequency electromagnetic (TFEM) exploration in high-power launch systems, processing technologies, and other aspects has effectively promoted the application of this method in oil and gas exploration in ultra-deep areas for the evaluation of favorable oil and gas areas for ultra-deep targets. Years of exploration practice both domestically and internationally have shown that the application of TFEM to study the anomalous properties of resistivity and polarizability in deep target layers, combined with comprehensive evaluation of petroleum geological characteristics, significantly improves the consistency between the oil and gas evaluation results of ultra-deep targets and drilling results. This article presents the application and drilling verification of TFEM exploration in predicting oil and gas in ultra-deep reservoir targets in western China. It further demonstrates that comprehensive research on reservoirs with multiple disciplines and attributes will effectively improve the success rate of ultra-deep exploration.
