Progress of research on RNA interference and gene silencing

Introduction of double-stranded RNA(dsRNA) induces specific gene silencing, a phenomenon called RNA interference(RNAi). Gene silencing is an important mechanism for biology expression and regulation, which has important biologic function. Here the study history, mechanism and applications of RNAi and gene silencing are reviewed.
