A poly(Congo red)film modified electrode was prepared by electropolymerization. The electrochemical behavior of rutin at this modified electrode was studied by cyclic voltammetry(CV).The result shows that the poly(Congo red)modified electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical catalytic effect for rutin. The peak currents of differential pulse voltammetry are linear to the rutin concentrations over the range of 5.0×10-8-8.0×10-6 mol/L.The detection limit is estimated to be 2.0×10-8 mol/L.This method can be used for the direct determination of rutin in Flos Sophorae buds with satisfactory results.
