Objective The influence of preoperative 5-Fu infusion via rectum cavity to the survival rate for patients with advanced colon-rectum carcinoma was discussed. Methods One hundred and twelve cases of colon-rectum carcinoma received 5-Fu infusion via rectum cavity before surgery (Group A), 144 ones received surgery only (Group B) without the above chemotherapy. Chemotherapy response was observed, further, the difference of surgical complications. Local recurrence rate and 5-year survival rate between 2 groups was analyzed. Results There was no significant difference (P0.05) in surgical complication occurrences and local recurrence rate between two groups. The 5-year survival rate of those patients with Duke's B and rectum carcinoma in group A was significantly higher than that of patients in group B (P0.05). Conclusion Chemotherapy with 5-Fu infusion via rectum cavity before surgery is an effective, safe and convenient therapy method against advanced colon-rectum carcinoma, can enhance long-term survival rate definitely.
