Aspirin combined with low dose clopidogrel for therapy of very old patients with unstable angina

Objective To study the cardiovascular event incidence in very old patients with unstable angina(UA) who received aspirin combined with low dose of clopidogrel.and to evaluate the safety of this protocol.Methods A total of 120 elderly UA patients aged over 75 years were randomized into treatment group and control group,with 60 cases in each group.All patients were treated with conventional therapy of standard dose of aspirin(0.1 g.qd),while patients in treatment group also received an extra dose of clopidogrel(75 mg,qd) administration.After 12 months of consecutive treatment,cardiovascular events incidence,bleeding incidence, and the safety of the treatment protocol were evaluated.Results The incidence of cardiovascular events in treatment group was significantly lower than that in control group(P0.05).while there was no significant difference in the bleeding event incidence and hospital readmission rate caused by the cardiovascular disease between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Aspirin in combination with low dose of clopidogrel shows better therapeutic effects and safety in very old patients with UA.
