Objective To study the protection of growth hormone to intestinal mucosa barrier in
rats with ischemia-reperfusion. Methods Intestinal mucosa morphology, bacterial culture in celiac lymph
nodes, endotoxin concentration in portal vein and intestinal mucosa apoptosis were observed in rats with
ischemia-reperfusion 24 later. At the same time, the effects of growth hormone on them were studied. Re-
sults 24 h after ischemia-reperfusion, intestinal mucosa apoptosis, endotoxin concentration in portal vein
and positive rate of bacterial culture in celiac lymph nodes were increased, but villi height and quantity
were decreased. Growth hormone could significantly change the above changes. Conclusion Growth hor-
mone played an important role in protection of intestinal mucosa barrier in rats with ischemia-reperfusion.
