摘要
A general method has been developed for the production and intensity measurement of high velocity atomic beams. The method has been applied to beams of hydrogen atoms with energies equivalent to 200–800-volt electrons. Measurement of the collision cross section of these atoms when scattered by molecular hydrogen confirms the prediction that such scattering is predominantly due to repulsive forces between the beam and scattering particles.
