Abstract Synthesis of selectively metallated diporphyrins with electron-accepting moieties is described. Steady-state fluorescence spectra of these compounds snowed substantial quenching of the fluorescence of the free-base porphyrin. A possible “superexchange” mechanism of long-range electron transfer is discussed.
