The identity of Hygrocybe vitellina and related species

The identity of Hygrocybe vitellina is discussed based on a number of different interpretations. The interpretation given by Orton is considered to be correct, with H. luteolaeta as a synonym. H. vitellina sensu Møller is Hygrocybe citrinopallida, H. vitellina sensu. Lundell & Nannfeldt is Hygrocybe lepida and Hygrocybe vitellina sensu most European authors is misapplied Hygrocybe ceracea . A new section Oreocybe is proposed for H. citrinopallida, H. lilacina and H. xanthochora .
