The emerging 2D materials that include layered and non-layered structure members have revealed fascinating ultrafast carrier dynamic properties, which provide opportunities for the advanced ultrafast photonic applications with high speed, high integration, and low-power cost. Ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy technique offers an effective tool to characterize the temporal evolution properties of materials with versatile, precise, and noninvasive features. In this chapter, we introduce the principle, experiment, and fundamental mechanism of the ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy technique for 2D materials. Several typical examples of ultrafast carrier dynamic studies on the van der Waals 2D materials and non-layered quasi-2D materials are also presented. Furthermore, we also prospect the future development tendency of ultrafast optics for 2D materials studies.
