摘要
Hydrogen production by a sustainable approach such as proton reduction triggered by renewable energy sources is highly challenging. Ruthenium-based nanomaterials have recently gained a renewed interest as catalysts for this reaction, showing very promising performances. This chapter summarizes the key factors ruling the catalytic activity of Ru metal/metal oxide nanoparticles as catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) through a critical assessment of the most prominent results published elsewhere. Finally, the main challenges in this field in the future are also discussed.
