Fluorescent probes with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties have great potential in the biomedical field. In general, AIE fluorogens (AIEgens) are characterized by their excellent photostability and strong fluorescence signal when aggregated. The fluorescence turn-on process of AIEgens will be triggered when their intramolecular motions are restricted. This mechanism can be exploited for the sensing and imaging of various biological targets and processes. In this chapter, we introduce some applications of AIE molecular probes in biomedical studies based on biomacromolecule detection, cell structure imaging, microorganism sensing, and photodynamic therapy (PDT). Finally, we provide an outlook on the future applications of AIE molecular probes in biomedicine.
