Replantation of Small Amputation of the Digit

A small amputation of digit is the complete detachment of distal finger through the level of distal phalanx or at the level of distal interphalangeal joint. Forty-four cases who received replantation of small amputation of a single digit in a period of eight years were evaluated in terms of survival rate, factors affecting survival rate, the degree of sensibility recovery, functional recovery and cost of surgery. The survival rate of 82% revealed that replantation of a small amputation was a feasible procedure. The high satisfaction rate of the patient justified the merits of replantation over conventional treatments of finger tip injuries. From our experience replantation of small amputation of the digit is worthy whenever the surgeon has the experience of microsurgery and the condition of the digit allows.
