In order to carry out the utilization of water hyacinth,vermicomposting technology was employed to convert water hyacinth to earthworm.While water hyacinth was used as the main feedstuff,the influence of the weight ratio of water hyacinth and straw,the cutting degree,the feed thickness and the fermenting degree of feed on the increased weight of earthworms were studied.The results showed that earthworms could be fed directly by fresh water hyacinth,and the optimized feeding situations in our research turned out to be fresh water hyacinth without zymosis,0.5 ~ 1 cm cutting degree and 15 cm feed thickness.A weight increase of 296% of earthworm could be achieved after 30 days' feeding.In conclusion,vermicomposting was found to be an easy and feasible technology to dispose water hyacinth,and offered a new method to the utilization of water hyacinth.
