[Objective] To observe the clinical efficiency of ulinastatin and octreotide on treating severe acute pancreatitis and its effect on serum interleukin-6 levels. [Methods]A tota1 of 82 patients with severe acute pancreatitis were randomly divided into the experiment group (n=42) treated with ulinastatin combined with octreotide, and the control group(n=40) treated with octreotide.Clinical symptoms, physical signs, serum and urinary amylase (AMS) level and average stay were observed. Serum interleukin-6 levels were also observed before and after treatment for 4th and 10th day during the experiment respectively. [Results] Ulinastatin combined with octreoticle could rapidly relieve the physical signs, control disease symptoms and make the level of serum and urinary amylase (AMS) up to normal, shorten average stay and increase the total effective rate(experiment group with 85.71% vs control group with 70.00%). The differences were statistical significance (P 0.05). Interleukin-6 level was significantly decreased in the experiment group on 4th day(97.99 ± 10.73 vs 70.44 ± 6.50,P0.05).[Conclusion]Ulinastatin combined with octreotide is more effective for treating patients with severe acute pancreatitis than octreotide. It can contribute to quickly decrease serum interleukin-6 level and inhibit the development of inflammatory response.
