Rihizoctonia solant the causal agent of brown root rot is present in sugar beet field in Vojvodina. The economic importance of Rhizoctonia root rot is small, because of small number of diseased plants incidance in sugar beet fields. The five year average incidence (2000-2004) of Rhizoctonia root rot was between 0,0 and 18,2 %, depending on weather conditions during the vegetation. This disease is very important economical problem in USA and some european counrties where significant decrease the root yields. In this paper is described the spred of R. solant in the world, the symptoms characteristics of fungus and its biology and epidemiology. The integrated concept is applied for the control of Rhizoctonia root rot in sugar beet. The integrated approach combines cropping techniques (crop rotation, soil tillage, fertilization etc), growing of Rhizoctonia resistant sugar beet varietes, seed treatment with fungicides, biocontrol with antagonistic fungi and other control mesaures which reduce the infection pressure in the field.
