In Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer in a Freestanding Center: The Baylor Experience

This study reports the results of the in vitro fertilization/embryo transfer program at the Baylor Center for Reproductive Health during its first two and one-half years of operation. A high pregnancy rate was achieved for women 39 years or younger without male factor. Twenty-seven clinical pregnancies resulted from 78 embryo transfers (35%). Twenty-five deliveries/ongoing pregnancies (gestation > 12 weeks) occurred per embryo transfer (32%). The higher success rate was attributed to our gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist/human menopausal gonadotropin ovarian stimulation protocol, a high oocyte-retrieval rate, meticulous embryology laboratory technique, and atraumatic embryo transfer, all performed in a uniquely designed, freestanding in vitro fertilization/embryo transfer center.
