摘要
In this study, we discuss the corrosion behavior of nine common metal materials (304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium, nickel, copper, brass, Inconel 600 and Monel 400) in three different proportions of the room-temperature ionic liquid including neutral ionic liquid (AlCl3/EMIC: 50/50 mol%), alkaline ionic liquid (AlCl3/EMIC: 44/56 mol%) and acidic ionic liquids (AlCl3/EMIC: 60/40 mol%). the surface morphologies were analyzed by using impedance, potentiodynamic polarization scan, potential electrochemical techniques and scanning electron microscopy. Metal corrosion behavior in the ionic liquid is quite different from the traditional liquid. In the neutral ionic liquid, 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel and nickel-metal have good ability to resist corrosion and carbon steel has an active passive transfer corrosion behavior while the copper and titanium are the less metallic materials. In the alkaline ionic liquid, titanium has a passivation region approximately 0.6V while the corrosion resistances of remaining metals are poor. In the acidic ionic liquid, all of the metals in this study have poor corrosion resistances. To find other good anti-corrosion metals or other approaches to deal with the metal corrosion problem in ionic liquid have become the main topic in this field.
