Tribological Properties of TiB_2 Coatings Produced by Laser Surface Boronizing on Pure Ti

TiB_2 coatings were prepared on pure Ti by laser surface boronizing.Crystalline phase and microstructure of the coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffractometry(XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Tribological properties were examined using pin-on-disk tester under dry sliding conditions.It has been found that the coatings were composed of TiB_2 phases,the crystal structure of the coatings is sticklike and the coatings have high surface micro-hardness(1600HV_(0.1)).The coatings have excellent wear resistance compared to pure Ti under dry sliding wear conditions.
