Objective: To quantitate the damage of perm and dyeing to hair and the reparative effect of shampoo and hair conditioner on hair. Methods: The changes of the morphology of the hair were examined by scanning electron microscope. The evaluations of results were based on self comparison. Results: The hair cuticle scores of newly treated hair were higher than those of before the treatment. Within the 3 months, after using hair conditioner the hair cuticle scores of the group continuously using shampoo plus hair conditioner were lower than the group using shampoo only. Conclusion: Perm and dyeing would lead to hair damage at different extent, and regular use of shampoo and hair conditioner in the initial period after perm and dyeing will give repairative effect to the treated hair.
