A Cross-Temporal Meta-Analysis of the Relationship between Gender Characteristics and Leadership Style

A cross-temporal meta-analysis is applied to analyze the relationship between Gender Characteristics and Leadership Style based on present literatures.It also analyses the trend of this relationship from the cross-cultural perspective before and after the financial crisis.The results showed that gender differences have a positive effect on leadership style.Feminine have a higher correlation with transformational leadership significantly,while masculine more significantly with transactional leadership.The relation between gender characteristics and the transformational leadership has significant differences in middle and low managers,and the transformational leadership shows nothing significantly.With the management level enhancement,leadership style has no significant difference in gender characteristics.Gender characteristics have more significantly impacts on transformational leadership in the context of eastern culture,while transactional leadership coincides with western.The difference of gender characteristics in transformational leadership is more notable,showing a rising trend,while transactional leadership has declined after suffering from financial crisis or facing high uncertain case.The conclusion has consistent with the findings in western cultural context,and provides cross-cultural empirical basis for the choice of leadership style in Chinese context.
