Phase Diagrams

A phase diagram is a map of a system and it shows the phases which should exist under equilibrium conditions for any particular combination of composition and temperature. It consists of lines which divide the diagram into a number of areas or fields. In a binary diagram, the fields may be either single phase or two-phased. Single phase fields are always separated by a two-phase field and three phases can only coexist at a unique point, for example, a eutectic point.
