摘要
Recently, Ribeiro and colleagues [ [1] Ribeiro H.S. Neri S.G.R. Oliveira J.S. Bennett P.N. Viana J.L. Lima R.M. Association between sarcopenia and clinical outcomes in chronic kidney disease patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis. Clin Nutr. 2022; 41: 1131-1140 Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (0) Google Scholar ] performed an excellent study, suggesting that sarcopenia and sarcopenia traits (low handgrip strength or low muscle mass, low physical performance) are both associated with an increased risk of mortality among patients with chronic kidney disease. This study had multiple clinical implications, with the remaindering that nurses and clinicians need to pay much more attention to sarcopenia among chronic kidney disease patients. In fact, the number of chronic kidney disease patients has sharply increased as society ages worldwide, and dialysis has become the most common treatment for this special population. As sarcopenia is prevalent among chronic kidney disease patients, it is very important to identify the association between sarcopenia and adverse outcomes. This systematic review and meta-analysis provided a comprehensive picture of sarcopenia or its traits on clinical outcome, which helps to apply evidence-based suggestions in clinical practice. However, this study could be improved upon once these issues were addressed. Reply - Letter to the editorClinical NutritionVol. 41Issue 9PreviewWe are pleased that our recently published systematic review [1] has earned the attention of Zhang et al. [2], and thankful for the opportunity to further discuss the merits of our results. Zhang et al. raised thoughtful insights, which contribute to a better understanding of the sarcopenia–mortality relationship in patients with chronic kidney disease. Full-Text PDF
