摘要
This study investigates the relationship between high school extracurricular activities (ECAs) and altruistic behaviors during crises, focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic. Using data from the Future Families and Child Wellbeing Study, which tracked individuals from birth to adulthood, the analysis included 2,710 participants with complete data on high school ECAs and altruistic behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Logistic and OLS regressions were utilized. The findings revealed that participation and level of ECAs significantly increased the likelihood and number of altruistic actions, with volunteer service activities exhibiting the strongest effects across various dimensions of altruism, such as helping with errands, providing financial support and acre, and giving advice. The findings support the Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework, highlighting how ECAs cultivate empathy and prosocial behaviors. The study underscores the potential of ECAs to enhance not only individual growth but also prosocial behaviors, offering actionable insights for educators and policymakers.
