Analysis of linear induction motor applied in low-speed maglev train

The low-speed maglev train adopts the single-sided, compound-secondary linear induction motors (LIMs) due to their simple construction and low cost. Since they not only produce thrust force to drive the train, but also the normal force to affect the levitation system, both two forces and their influences are analyzed. Based on an improved analytical equivalent method which considering primary iron core loss, secondary eddy current and the end effect amending factors, the thrust force and normal force are calculated under different slip frequency and different current, which are also validated by 2D FE model, 3D FE model and measurement. The effect of secondary temperature and material feature on normal force is also analyzed. It shows the thrust force and normal force are almost same in this application and the transverse end effect has bigger influence on normal force than the thrust force. During certain area, the normal force decreases and thrust force almost keeps constant along the slip frequency increasing.
