The results, showed that G cells well absent both in mucosa adjacent to clonic metaplasia and pseudopyloric metaplasia while they were still present, though fewer than normal, in small intestinal metaplasia. D cells well found in pseudopyloric and small intestinal metaplasia and in some areas of clonic metalasia. Gastrin mRNA was only expressed in the G cell distributed region, The absence of G cells and its mRNA in clonic metaplasia may be associated with sulfomucin screted by local goblet cells, which changes the local microenvironment and thus influences G cell differentiation and development. However, the reason of the absence of G cells and its Gastrin mRNA in pseudopyloric metaplasia is unclear.
