Allopolyploidization is an important event in plants, since it enhances heterosis and wide environmental adaptations. Common wheat, Triticum aestivum (AABBDD), arose through hybridization between T. turgidum (AABB) and Aegilops tauschii (DD) and subsequent whole genome duplication.
