Aim: To investigate CYR61 and CTGF expression levels and their relation to clinical and pathological features in lung cancer.Methods: The mRNA and protein expression levels of CYR61 and CTGF were determined in 60 cases of lung cancer tissue and their matched lung tissue using real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry staining. Results: The mRNA and protein expression levels in lung cancer tissue were both lower than those in lung tissue (P0.05). The mRNA expression of CYR61 and CTGF was related to histological types, tumor grade, lymph node metastasis, smoking, and family history (P0.05). The mRNA expression of CYR61 was positively correlated with that of CTGF(r=0.604;P=0.000). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that tumor type and age were important for predicting CYR61 expression in lung cancer, while tumor position, expression of CYR61, and gender were influencing factors for CTGF expression.Conclusion: CYR61 and CTGF may play a role in the progression of lung cancer by either single gene itself or co-interactions of the two genes, and their proteins might serve as valuable targets for therapeutic intervention.
