Preparation of β-Sitosterol Nicotinate

In the presence of organic solvent,β-sitosterol nicotinate was synthesized by indirect esterification of β-sitosterol and nicotinoyl chloride.The optimal synthetic conditions were obtained as follows:molar ratio of β-sitosterol to nicotinoyl chloride to pyridine was 1∶4∶12,reaction temperature was 91℃ and reaction time was 6 h,the solvent and acid removing agent was pyridine,the recrystallization solvent was 95% ethanol.And the yield was above 75% under above conditions.IR and MS were used to determine the configuration of β-sitosterol nicotinate.
